Galaxy S23 Ultra Overview

Samsung’s top-of-the-line Android phone, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, is here to shake up the market and set new standards for what a smartphone should be. It has an elegant design, a gorgeous display and some of the best camera hardware you can find on an Android phone today.

It also has the fastest-ever chipset, which means it’s a definite step up from last year’s S22 Ultra. It’s powered by a souped-up version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, which is also available in Samsung’s S23 and S23 Plus models.

Keypoints

The chip inside the S23 Ultra is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that’s been overclocked to a 3.36Ghz core with an additional Cortex-A53 ARMv8 core, which makes it more than capable of dealing with demanding workloads. It’s paired with the latest generation of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

This combination makes it fast and efficient, so you’ll be able to get your hands on content faster than ever. The S23 Ultra can hit speeds up to 2.4Gbps when connected to Wi-Fi 6E, which means you’ll be able to download and upload data at a faster pace than most other smartphones out there.

As well as the speed upgrade, the S23 Ultra also offers a host of other improvements. These include an improved camera array with two telephoto lenses and a 12Mp selfie sensor, a wider field of view when recording in 8K, and support for Super HDR images.

It’s still a glass and metal sandwich, but this time it has been fitted with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which should be more durable than the previous-generation version that was used on the S22 Ultra. It should also fare better if you drop it in water or a puddle, as Samsung has rated it with an IP68 water and dust protection rating.

The S23 Ultra is now available in a range of colors, including Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender. You’ll also find Red, Sky Blue and Graphite on the Galaxy Store.

Features

The Samsung Ultra 23 runs the latest version of Samsung’s One UI, which has been based on Android 13 and updated with a host of new features. It includes a suite of productivity tools for the S Pen stylus, as well as an AR filters feature that lets you add effects to a photo you take. It also supports Samsung’s new fast-charging technology, which can deliver up to three days of battery life on a single charge.

It also comes with Samsung’s Game Booster, which is designed to improve gaming performance by reducing the load placed on the phone when you’re playing games. This feature uses a system called Pause USB Power Delivery (or PD for short) which allows the S23 Ultra to stop sending electrons to the battery cell while it’s being charged, so that it can redistribute them to the CPU instead, thereby slowing down any overheating issues.

The S23 Ultra can be charged quickly via its USB Type-C port, which is a welcome addition to the Samsung lineup as it’s more convenient than having to use the traditional charging cable. It’s also compatible with wireless charging and PD charging, so you can plug it into a wireless charger or a compatible wireless power sharing device to get even more juice out of the battery.
